It's all in how you mix it...

A wedding is the culmination of the decision of two individual people to spend their lives together.  The reception is where we celebrate this decision by bringing together two families; two sets of friends; two lives.  For many of your guests, this will be the first time they have ever met.

Traditionally, receptions have been set up with the family of the groom on one side of the room and the bride’s family on the other.  (Friends and coworkers tend to get stuck at that table in the back where NO ONE knows each other…)  While this is great, and affords almost everyone the chance to sit with or near people they know, the two sides rarely mixed.

When you do your seating arrangements, you might want to consider “mixing it up” just a bit.  Don’t be afraid to put your favorite aunt and uncle at a table with his favorite cousins.  Let his sister share a table with your brother.  Even if you aren’t comfortable with mixing up the people at the tables, then take the opportunity to mix the tables up…  Put all of your crazy cousins right next to his screwy aunts and uncles!  (The friends and coworkers still get stuck at that table in the back.  There’s really nothing we can do about that…)

Remember, the two of you getting married is not only the joining of two people; it is the joining of two families who already have something in common:  they all love the two of you very much, and wish you all the best…
